Staying at Midas Resort, Belize

Most of the time when we are in search of accommodations we look for, and ultimately choose, quirky properties that are a little more interesting than a standard hotel room. It's for this reason that the cute little cabañas of Midas Belize caught our eye.

The Location

Midas is located in the perfect location, San Ignacio which is centrally situated among several of the big Mayan ruin sites. Within a half hour drive you can be at Xunantunich and Cahal Pech Mayan archaeological sites.

The Midas property sits just outside of the main "downtown" but it is a quick and safe walk back and forth. You can walk into town for dinner and drinks, ice cream, shopping, and overall sight-seeing.

The Property

All of the cabañas and cabins of Midas were littered throughout the property along paved walkways lined in tropical plants. It definitely made you feel like you were in the jungle. At first I was worried about noise because everything was some what close together (and how sound proof can a cabaña really be?) but I was pleasantly surprised.

From Marc's point of view, the coolest part was probably the pool. In the far corner was a waterfall feature and (if you dared to adventure) a grotto behind it. The only way to access the grotto was to dive below the water line and swim through a hole in the wall. Once inside there was a skeleton and some weird lighting.

The Room

The rooms were small but definitely enough room for just the two of us to stay in for two days. It had a king-size bed, private bathroom, dresser, TV, and a mini fridge.

We stayed in one of Midas' wooden cabañas, set back in the trees, which really gave you a private tropical experience.
