Our Quick Stay at Hotel McCoy, Tucson
For our second annual mid-holiday-season getaway to Tucson, we wanted to stay somewhere that was a bit different from the standard hotel. Tucson has A LOT of options but one stood out immediately: Hotel McCoy.
Here’s what we loved:
Affordable Pricing
Not only is Hotel McCoy already an affordable choice compared to other boutique hotel experiences, they also openly share a lot of promo codes on their website that you can use. We chose to use the “Book with the Kindness Rate” option. This meant we got a discount if we promised to commit to one act of kindness before check-in.
So many amenities
Everything you could ever desire is offered by Hotel McCoy. Seriously, there was nothing we were left with wanting during our stay. Amenities include an on-site book store, a mini gym, free bike rentals, pinball, ping-pong, and more.
The rooms come with large TVs, a workstation, a fully stocked bathroom, and ours even included a kitchenette with a mini fridge, sink, hot plate, microwave, and plates and utensils.
All the Art on the Property
This dreamy “Art Hotel” has vibrant murals around throughout the newly renovated motel property as well as an onsite art gallery, and individually curated guest rooms.
It was fun to walk through the property and see all of the huge murals or tiny hidden gems throughout. It was like a mini adventure!
Great Food & Drink Options
In addition to the on-site bar with local beer and wine options, Hotel McCoy also had a live-in food truck. Plus in the mornings they boasted a complimentary “world’s longest oatmeal bar” that also included pop tarts, fruit, and local coffee and tea. It was an incredible way to start every morning!
The Pool & Yard Area
Hotel McCoy really won us over with the heated salt water pool and all the outdoor amenities that really made for a wonderful sense of community in the space. In addition to the pool and the lovely seating area surrounding it, there was yard games area with cornhole, football, and an outdoor theater. Plus there was natural gas fire pits to keep things toasty on the cool desert nights and string lights to keep the fun going into the night.
Here’s what we thought could have been better:
There isn’t much we would change about Hotel McCoy. It was cozy and everyone was very friendly and helpful. One thing we would share is that we wish there was more focus on the small details like upkeep and cleaning. Not only did we check in to find dirty towels under our bed, but there was also quite a bit run down about the room and property even though it was recently renovated. However the staff was amazing and immediately made everything right!
Overall Thoughts
We’d stay here again! It was a bit off the beaten path, not so walkable, but that’s what made the place feel so quaint and cozy. It’s our plan to continue returning back to Tucson every November so, who knows, we may end back up at the McCoy!
